An online senate election poll conducted for a week by Tia Belau/Pacific note shows two challengers topping the list of 24 senatorial candidates.
The survey was conducted from August 29 - September 5 2016. Airai Delegate Frank Kyota and Dr. Stevenson Kuartei leads all candidates getting 50 (86%) and 45(78%) out of total of 58 respondents respectively.
The survey indicates that of eight incumbents, six placed in the top thirteen while two are outside. [Note: The survey was set up before the supreme Court ruling reduced the senate membership from 13 to 11 for the next Olbiil Era Kelulau. However both sides the respondents are petitioners are appealing the decision.]
New senate faces are expected in the next Senate with five hugely popular incumbents choosing to contest for higher offices or retiring from politics. The poll results indicates a majority of respondents were off-island resident with 70% residing outside of Palau.
